- In 2010, The Hospice of Baton Rouge provided end-of-life care education to over 11,000 community members and health care professionals through seminars, workshops, advanced directive materials, community presentations and bereavement support.
- The Hospice of Baton Rouge is the second oldest continuously operating hospice provider in all of Louisiana. THBR has cared for over 10,000 patients. We are now caring for third generation family members.
- In 2010, 47% of our patients had non- cancer diagnoses such as: Alzheimer’s, Heart Disease, Pulmonary Disease, Dementia, HIV/AIDS, Stroke/Coma, ALS (Lou Gherig’s)...and others.
- THBR cares for all ages. Our youngest patient in 2010 was two weeks old when he entered our care. Our oldest patient was 102 years old.
- THBR opened the first hospice inpatient unit in this region in 2005. The unit is designed to provide short-term stays for patients with uncontrolled pain or symptom control concerns. Over 1000 individuals have been cared for since its opening. Patients usually remain in the unit for approximately 5 days.
- The Butterfly Wing is located on the Mid-City campus of Baton Rouge General Medical Center.
- The focus of our care is comfort. THBR provides care in the home or any homelike setting such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities and group homes.
- THBR offers bereavement services to everyone in our community.
- THBR offers an end-of-life care option that provides dying patients and their loved ones with comfort, compassion and dignity does exist. It’s called hospice care!
