Hospice Care

The First and Only Nonprofit Hospice in the City

The Hospice of Baton Rouge’s patient care and services are guided by Individual Plans of Care that are developed for our patients and their loved ones by our interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, aides and volunteers.

Specialized Care

At The Hospice of Baton Rouge, we are here to support you every step of the way. As you transition from curative treatments to focusing on pain and symptom management, our comprehensive hospice services are ready to assist you. We address your physical needs and provide emotional and spiritual support to ensure your comfort and peace throughout your hospice journey.

Hospice care is designed for individuals with a life expectancy of six months or less, emphasizing pain management and symptom relief for terminal illnesses. Importantly, hospice care is fully covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and all private insurance plans.

The Butterfly Wing

Inpatient Hospice Care

The Butterfly Wing® is an eight-bed facility located in Baton Rouge General Medical Center Midcity that provides short-term supervised care for patients with acute needs. Patients are eligible for the General Inpatient Level of Care when round-the-clock care is necessary to manage pain and control symptoms or treatments for a patient's needs that cannot be reasonably provided at home. The Butterfly Wing® provides the same full range of medical, emotional, social and spiritual services our home care patients receive, in a setting that permits more intensive monitoring.

In-home hospice care means dedicated, compassionate care from a team of nurses, social workers, trained volunteers, and spiritual companions. We understand the critical needs of our patients and their families, providing comprehensive support. Our goal is to ensure compassionate care tailored to the unique needs of each individual and family.

Pediatric Care Services

Our dedicated team provides specialized care for children with serious illnesses, focusing on both medical and emotional well-being. We empower families with knowledge about their child's condition and guide them through complex healthcare decisions. Alongside medical expertise, we offer comprehensive support for emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs.

Our palliative care services prioritize relief from symptoms and stress, aiming to enhance your child's quality of life. With regular visits from our multidisciplinary team and 24/7 access to a registered nurse, you'll have continuous support every step of the way.
